efforts, seriously I want you to show me a massive spike. Or any evidence whatsoever that even 10% of the population voted for Obama because he was black.

^^^I tried searching it for you romanigypsyeyes…I didn’t see an exact percentage =/ I’m sure there is SOMETHING out there, but idk about those numbers given.

^ I know there’s no evidence, because it’s crap. All the evidence shows that Obama would only get the AA vote from AAs, and they voted pretty much the same (Dem or Rep % wise) that they do every election.

Ok just found some numbers: roughly 89% of African Americans voted Democrat in 2004 whereas 94% voted Democrat in 2008.

Obama got 43% of the white vote. Kerry got 41% in 2004.

Since around 75% of the population is white and around 15% is African American, let’s do the math. The 6% difference in the African American vote is not nearly as significant as the 2% jump in white vote. I seriously doubt that 2% of the white population voted for him “just because he was black”. Neither of those numbers, btw, come even close to your 20% voted for him “just because he was black”. The majority voted for their party like normal and the rest switched parties basically.

As for turnout, turnout was higher among ever single population, most notably among young voters of all races (a generally untapped voting poll). This wasn’t because young white kids wanted a black guy in there, it was because most of us have friends in Iraq/Afghanistan and couldn’t stand the thought of someone like McCain in there.

Now that that’s settled, don’t say things without having facts to back them up. K?

Just off the top of my head (what I remember from earlier), Obama got about 800,000 more black votes than Kerry, with ~half coming from Republicans and ~half new voters. Of course Obama got about 15,000,000 more votes overall than Kerry (or something like that), so that’s a tiny portion.

^^ The fact of the matter is that Obama DID not become President just because he was black. I think that is the point being made, also, for no one to post statistics without proof.

romanigypsyeyes: Which website did you obtain that info from?

CNN has a lot of poll data available. I’m not sure how to access it on their website, but you can use google to find their exit polls from the last 3 presidential elections.

yeah i saw an exit poll of those who voted for Obama. these were their reasons.

Racism – 10%
White Guilt – 30%
Wanting to live comfortably without working hard – 50%
Healthcare – 5%
War in Iraq – 5%

Well, this topic took a weird turn. What happened to voting for the Queen?

I know lol, we should focus on the original purpose of the thread:) Does anyone else want to be queen? haha, we already have 4 or 5 candidates.(although I already gave my vote to Lauraj haha)

Queen? hmm someone should set up a poll…

Good idea! haha:) I’ll do it:>

Hmmm…does the Queen get to chop off people’s heads, Alice in Wonderland style?

Lol if you are queen you probably have that option…lol
Omgosh! You changed your infamous location! lol

Laura, most of the data came from CNN like TCBH said. I don’t remember where the rest came from. A quick Google search would yield the same results.

Okay so if we are going with the poll idea we need an official list of all candidates. Shouldn’t we set a limit, so we won’t have 20 Queen-wannabes?? I say a limit of 10 if not less. (I’ll leave this up to you Warts)

From memory:

Lauraj100

desi_chick??

nil desperandum? (I really can’t remember the last part. sorry)
umm…were there more?

My “fear” is that people would vote on who has the “best” name. In my opinion nil will definitely win LOL

This is an online forum. To future Queen…you WILL NOT receive a crown, but you should gain respect on HSL, I guess

I also want to reiterate the fact that I made this thread in a joking way. It is my hope it will be treated as such…no more arguments (talking to myself there) and no insults to the other candidates =D

^See my thread haha, it’s further down the new post page:)

Kinda late but I never said there was a graph that said people only voted for Obama because he was black. I said that more people who were of color were motivated to vote this time around. I assume that a number of them(the percentage of the black people that I said was made up, and quite larger than it might really be) only voted for him because of his color( a small number of people ). I believe there was an article on it too about the fact that some people were voting only because of race.

And of course Obama didn’t become President only for his color -__________-

Haven’t been around in awhile My family recently moved and we do not have internet access yet…if you cared to know. LOL well I am back :)

this thread is useless without pics.
