@mangopie14. I also received the Swarthmore email. I’m just trying to not read anything into it.
@DominicBayer , et al… Not diminishing the Swarthmore programs at all at all… but they seem to have a very proactive recruiting program. University of Chicago, too. Pretty sure the PSAT scores triggered their initial interest. (Welcome to the College Board mailing list?) We started getting cards from them Sophomore year, quite independent from the Questbridge application. Then the targeted email tied to Questbridge and Regular Decision. My reaction is that they know it’s a competition to get the best and brightest. Take it as a compliment… now a pre-qualified compliment because of your Questbridge application, and consider your options.
Our daughter also got an email from Caltech encouraging her to apply for RD, but we’re assuming it’s promotional as because she’s really not the type of student Caltech is looking for. She also got emails from Bowdoin and Trinity encouraging her to apply for ED; she did not rank either of them. We were thinking that maybe with the deadline for match announcements coming up so soon, QB recently released finalists’ profile data to all their partner schools because there has been no other contact until just this past week from any of the schools. Hopefully that’s all it is.
3 Days 'til Match Day!!!
Does anyone know how many finalists there were this year?
There were over 4800 finalists this year
Wow, can’t believe Match Day is in three days. I wish the best of luck for everyone on this forum tonight on that Fateful Tuesday
I took a brief look at this forum to see if anyone else ranked UChicago as their first choice, but most people who ranked UChicago must’ve ranked it further down the list.
Whatever happens, the best thing to do is truly believe that you’re still in good shape. If I don’t get matched to UChicago, I’m planning on going to an out-of state state university with one of the first exclusive departments for the field I’m interested in. The out-of-state tuition’s going to bite a little (a lot).
That or re-apply on regular decision. Does anyone know if re-applying regular decision really gives you another shot at the school? Because the way I’m interpreting the process (I apologize if I’m awfully wrong, but I’m still very unfamiliar with the entire Questbridge process) is that if a school rejects you early on when you commit, wouldn’t that school be even less likely to accept you in the regular decision?
Any input would greatly be appreciated.
Good night folks and stay enlightened,
-Sickah
From what I understand of that Match process only 10 (more or less) finalists are matched at each partner school. This means that they receive a scholarship that meets 100% of their represented need and have don’t have to stress anymore about college apps. But not being matched doesn’t mean that you were rejected to the school, you simply weren’t one of the 10 or so people to receive the scholarship. The national college match is a scholarship (and an acceptance) to a prestigious college, not just an acceptance. Your chances of being accepted through the regular decision process are far greater than that of being matched.
btw I’m also a NCM finalist. Best of luck to everyone who’s awaiting their match results!
@bluepaint1 That does make sense. Thanks for the input!
@bluepaint1. I believe your interpretation is faulty: last year 57 students were matched to UChicago, 30 something to Yale, and only 1 to Brown. Colleges merely accept students they like, but are unable to know how many students exactly will end up being matched to them due to the rankings.
@exoticportrichey you are so right! Thank you for your response no need to fret.
@Sickah im wondering the same thing. Like what would take you from deferred (well, “not matched” in our case) to accepted? I know you can send in an updated transcript, updated test scores, but is that all it takes?
@DominicBayer Not saying you’re wrong but I would just like to point out that according to QuestBridge only 501 students were matched to colleges. So I find it hard to believe that almost 1/5 of the students who were matched came from 2 of the 35 or so partner colleges. I did look on Yale’s website though and they said that they match 17-25 (ish) students each year so it is possible…nearly 60 to UChicago is really surprising though…either way all the colleges and QB state that many finalists get admitted through regular decision if they aren’t matched. So even if you aren’t matched then your chances at being admitted regular decision are pretty good. And the financial aid packages will be just as good.

I agree with your statements regarding RD.
Does anyone else see the Regular Decision form above the “Upload Materials” section??
Yup. I emailed them about it a while ago, and they stated that every finalist had the form, so that the finalists all could be keeping Regular Decision in mind if they were not matched.
Don’t worry! Good luck
Good luck everybody!
Less than two days left…
So I have a serious question.
If you ranked the four non-binding schools, do you still get matched to only one school?
Or can you still see if you got matched to any of the other schools as well?
For example- if you got matched to MIT, which is first-ranked, can you still technically find out if you were matched to any of the other three schools?
@marmoset I’ve been wondering that too! Maybe you’d be able to check at each school’s student portal? I haven’t yet found anything on that though. I guess we’ll find out the 1st!
I know mist schools automatically consider you for regular decision…when do you find out decisions?
Good luck to everyone in here. I’m hoping for the best for all of us.
