"I am taking a SAt subject test in November and December. So Can I just rank Yale during college match and Apply to Stanford and Princeton during regular. Will my chances be severely reduced? keep in mind I am also depending on high senior grades to help[ my case.

Should I rush and take the sat 2's in october or should I take my time to get really high grades, perfect the princeton app and get high midyear grades?"

If you are applying Questbridge and Yale requires SAT II's then you have to take them in October to meet the deadline.

We had figured that there was no point in doing QB because although our income has been very low--like under $25K, sometimes well under--for a number of years due to job loss we have protected our S from most of its effects and he doesn't have a big sob story to tell about working his fingers to the bone or dodging gangbangers or the like. In addition, both parents are white college grads and there are advanced degrees and so on. (The income issue is mostly due to location, age, and attempting to start businesses.) So clearly this is not a family where college would not be thought of without QB.

Do you think there is any point in his applying? (Most of his favorite schools are partners, so that wouldn't be an issue.)

Consolation, would it hurt to apply? For the relatively little effort it takes compared to what you would get out of it I cannot imagine why anyone of lower income would not. I feel my D is a long shot, we are not a minority, about the only thing we have going for us is lower income and her Dad did not graduate college. No gang bangers here in farm country. Even though she is a long shot it is a no brainer to apply and have that slim chance of graduating college debt free. What do you have to lose except a little time and effort, especially if S's top choices are on the partners list?

Just a situation asks everyone to help me:
I decided to ED willams, but then my counselor told me try QB, but my family even though is low income for some reason, but both parents went to top colleges and have good job before...and they pay a lot of attention on my education and I attend art/dance school since little...I think QB doesn't like this kind of people right?
so I am wondering should I do QB and list willams No1, or just do ED willams?

Consolation, that is rude of you to assume that everybody applying for Questbridge might be a "gang banger" or work their fingers to the bone, or, my favorite, have a "sob story." How aout the notion that kids that are interested in a quality higher education, who might not have had an upper middle class suburban life, might just be grateful that these schools want economic and ethnic diversity! I can assure you that the kids that are fortunate to receive the Questbridge scholarship are "on par" with fellow students at whatever college they may be attending.

3 questions ///:
1) Do we need to ask collegeboard send our SAT score now to 8(or whatever the # is) colleges now before we get to know whether we selete as finlist or not?
2) do we need to re-request the score sending after take the Oct SAT?
3) QB compare to ED/EA, will increase your chance or decrease? I am still decising betwwen those two. Consider my dream college is need-blind so either way there will be a good $ package if I get accept.

GA2012MOM: Amen to that!! QB to me is like a gift to have known about. Even if D doesn't get in I now have the knowledge to help other students apply as well. I already have in mind some of D's underclass friends that could possibly benefit as well as have referred a girl from younger D's ballet studio. So much potential to benefit so many and for such comparatively little effort.

One only needs to look at the profiles of last years recipients to understand that while many of them are indeed minorities from single parent homes there are still a few that do not fall under that category. Not applying bc you think that you have to be a certain stereotype just is not a good excuse. That would be like me saying, well a substantial portion of recipients come from the southwest and we are from the Northeast so I guess D shouldn't apply because she won't get it. The odds of getting a QB match are something like 150 in over 3000 and a lot probably depends on the colleges you rank as well.

Ohyeah:
1)YES but see #2
2) YES and no, it is my understanding that when you take the Oct SAT all of your previous scores will be sent to the selected schools along with the new scores so no need to waste money and request twice
3) can't answer that, anyone else?

If you are interested in the National College Match, it is important to note that our partner colleges are seeking to provide scholarships to students who come from families experiencing financial hardship.

Some of the factors we use to assess financial need include:

*
Annual household income: Last year's National College Match scholarship recipients come from households earning from $0 to $62,000 annually. If you come from a household earning more than this amount but still feel that you have faced economic hardship, there is room on the application to explain your situation.
*
Additional information about your household circumstances such as:
o
Number of people in the household.
o
The cost of living in your area.
o
Other financial commitments, such as medical bills or support payments to family members outside the United States.

^ THANK YOU. i was checking out QuestBridge and that's totally what I was looking for.

i don't know if i want to apply. i mean, obviously my family's not rich, but we're at the upper end of the range given, and we would be able to afford college as long as there was financial aid. i'd rather have someone else who actually needs the scholarship get it.

but how to show our fiancial income problem?
talking about it in essay, or bio essay? I want to talk about myself in those essay instead of "complaining" how $ problem stays in my life.....

After reading all the entries in this thread, I am still confused about whether my son should apply to QB. Can someone answer the following questions?

If you're a finalist who opts out of the College Match, is there any value to having been a finalist? QB will only forward your application to the ranked colleges for RD, right?

Do you list household income as the amount after taxes and expenses, if DH is self-employed?

If you aren't doing the match, most of the colleges waive the application fees for finalists. But then you could probably also request fee waivers from your GC, so it probably isn't a big advantage to apply through QB except that it identifies you as "low income" or first-gen or minority. For RD, most of the schools want you to fill out their suppliments anyway and a couple of them want their entire application filed out in addition to the QB app. So it will probably require a lot more paperwork than applying directly, but I can't say if it's all worth it or not.

Not sure about the self-employed question. They probably want to know all income before and after taxes and expenses.

My D "locker" on home page show GC rec "completed" but tests and transcripts not. D turned in the appropriate forms to GC, so I am assuming she would have turned them in...???,,, or do SAT "official test scores" need to be sent. I had called Questbridge, and they said a copy of SATI and SATII's could just be copied off web and sent from GC office to show authentic, so we did that. Do any of you have any knowledge of any of this? Thanks
