Question about admission policy on TOEFL

I know U Rochester has a minimum score(100) and sub-scores on TOEFL test. I am just wondering if I have a TOEFL score lower than 100, do I still have the chance to get conditional admission or I have to take ESL class, or get denied for sure? Thanks.

ilovecoke… Great question. While we usually require a minimum score of 100 on the TOEFL, there are students that are admitted with scores below 100 because they show tremendous potential elsewhere. These students are often admitted with an ESL requirement, but some of the students that write well, have strong recommendations that address their english speaking ability, and are at least close to a 100 (i.e. 95), may be admitted without ESL. A score below a 100 does make it a little bit more difficult to be admitted, but it does not result in an automatic denial of admission.
