Question about admissions.

I’m currently in the 9th grade applying for Woodberry. I made mediocre grades this year, nothing special. Would I have a better chance entering as a 9th grader or a 10th grader?

What are your grades and SSAT scores?

Grades are B’s, SSAT is 60%.

Not applying for financial ade, but I don’t think that matters. Their website states “Applying for financial aid has absolutely no effect on a student’s application for admission. Admission decisions are based on a student’s qualifications and the likelihood that he will contribute to the life of the school. An applicant is first accepted for enrollment and then the family’s application for financial aid is considered.”.

sports??

Golf and Basketball. All conference in golf and have won 3 local tournaments.

I think you have a good shot. Golf is big there. Your grades are solid. your scores are fine for Woodberry

Ok, thanks! Any tips when interviewing?

Prepare questions and be yourself. Admission officers can see through anyone trying to act like someone they’re not, simply to impress said AOs. There’s really nothing to it except answering the questions wholeheartedly and showing that you really want to go to Woodberry. It also doesn’t hurt to send a handwritten thank-you note after your interview.

There will probably only be about 10-15 new boys who enroll for the 10th grade. Let the interviewer know if you are willing to enter as either a new 10th grader or repeat ninth grader. You can acknowledge that you know there are more slots in the ninth grade, and you can see the benefit to both.

If you were to repeat, you would get the full four year experience, plus additional time for physical growth and maturity issues. If you enter as a 10th grader, you stay on your current track. The current headmaster came to Woodberry as a new 10th grader and he seemed to get through the school and do fine.
