Does Boston College give scholarship by need or by your grade??
I got 27,000 scholarship…plus work-study plus loan adds up to quite a lot…
I was wondering if my family has to continue to be “poor” for me to get that much grant or if I get a good grade at boston college then the college will give me a lot of grant…??

good question....does BC offer any scholarships for good grades after freshman year??

BC only offers 12 merit scholarships. The rest of their aid is distributed totally by need. They give 100% of what they think you "need" as demonstrated by the FAFSA and CSS Profile.

My daughter, who is a junior, has gotten basically the same package each year from BC, increased because tuition has increased. But our income has remained basically the same.

Do they really give 100%? My financial aid package is $7000 short of what my EFC indicated. Also, does BC give 100% after your freshman year?

yeah thats my situation too Rovee, they are $6000 short of what my EFC is....it woulod be nuice for that gap top be filled!

I think they factor in info from the CSS profile, such as home equity. At least that's been my experience.

Mine is about $7000 short also. There is no way that I can afford BC with this package that they gave me.

At least you got some aid.

I hear you jangel86 and it really, well sucks, because BC was where I wanted to go. Its sad that cost has to play any role in our college choice, but unfortunately, that's reality.

Have any of you guys tried to negotiate your package? My dad called today and they said they are going to recalculate my EFC with the tax forms from 2004, and that the number that they originally gave was the absolute lowest they would give you, but could be higher. However, since Georgetown gave me almost twice as much as BC did, I don't think they will be able to recalculate my package to be as much as Georgetown gave me.

Maybe you could use Georgetown as a bargaining point, jangel86. I've heard that this is a good tactic if you want to try to get more aid. Plus, use the fact that you are a good student (honors right?) and that you really want to go to BC, and maybe they'll give.

Yeah, we faxed them the package that Georgetown gave me, so hopefully they will try to match it. However, I have heard that BC isn't very good about negotiating aid.

How should i go about negotiating aid? Is a letter a good idea? or is a telephone call better?

My dad called, and then they asked him to send in our updated tax forms and everything.

yea, I my package is around $11k short of my EFC also. do they have private loans for me to cover that cost or do i have to borrow money from elsewhere?
