Question about braces and retainers. Please ..it's urgent!

How soon will my teeth start shifting after I got my braces off and I don't have my retainer in?

I got my bottom retainer around 2 months ago give or take and I'd been wearing them regularly since. But I lost it around 2 days ago, and my orthodontist is on a really weird schedule, so the earliest I can get a replacement will be around 3 weeks from now. The thing that has me worried is my braces were on for a considerable amount of time so obviously a retainer is of utmost importance

So should I be freaking out right now? becaue i am =/

How much will it be to replace them? If my teeth do move, will the replacement be able to correct any movement?

*Oh and this only pertains to my bottom teeth because I still have my top braces on.

I truly think its different for everybody...

After I got my braces off I got a permanent retainer at the bottom and an 'invisible' one for the top. I wore the top one religiously for a couple weeks, but after that I just stopped haha. At my 6 month checkup, the ortho said everything looked great. Go figure.

If it were my orthodontist, the replacement would be made from the current position of your teeth at the time of getting the replacement, so no, it wouldn't be able to correct any movement but it would stop the movement from getting any worse. I think some places keep a mold or something of your teeth right after you get your braces off and get your retainer, and they can make a retainer exactly like your old one from that.

If it's only your bottom teeth, I wouldn't freak out. The same thing happened to me, except it was both top and bottom and it was probably more like two weeks before I could get a replacement. My teeth are fine now, one tooth on the bottom is a little more crooked than it would be if I hadn't lost the retainer, but it's not noticeable at all.

It partly depends on how your teeth were originally-- were they REALLY crooked? Because my friend's teeth were never that crooked, and after getting her braces off, she hasn't worn her retainers for months and months and months, and her teeth still look fine.

It is different for everyone, but 3 weeks probably won't make a huge difference.

My teeth went back to being crooked in a couple of months.

You are already doing the right thing by contacting your ortho. Your ortho might be able to adjust the retainer you lost. Do not worry about the three weeks thing, your ortho will know what to do.

This is a PSA...
Please do not do what one of my younger brothers did. One of my younger brothers had really crooked teeth. He got braces, his teeth became straight and all, and he never wore his retainers or anything like that ever. Now, he is a handsome dude, with the most crooked bottom teeth of all time. I do not know how his front teeth stayed straight. But, his total dental cost was over 4k! Please obey your dentist and ortho and everyone else.

But, do not fret over 3 weeks:)
