I just read on Tufts web site that the campus is divided into two sections - uphill and downhill.

Is it a very steep hill? I am concerned about walking up and down (I have a bad knee) Thanks!

It's not too steep. If you can visit, please do so that you can see for yourself. There are however, steps you can climb up near the library and on the other side of campus, plus there's an elevator in Dowling Hall (the administrative building)

Yeah it took me forever to figure out how wonderful the use of the elevator in Dowling is. Whenever I'd have to walk from the gym to Olin or whatever, I'd basically die on the memorial steps. Then someone suggested I use the elevator. "Elevator? What?" I said. They told me to walk to Dowling, go up to the 7th floor, and proceed. Sometimes it's still out of the way, though.

It's not really "divided", per se. It's kind of unofficial. Going up, there are the downhill dorms, followed by the president's lawn, the frats, and some special interest houses, plus Health Services, tennis courts, etc. And on the top of the hill, there are academic buildings and uphill dorms. I'd say it's about ten-twelve minutes for me to get from South Hall (the downhill dorm in the lower right corner of campus, if you're looking at it from Davis Square) to the quad that has Houston, Miller, Carmichael, but that's only because for me, walking uphill takes slightly longer. The hill isn't really that bad, it's merely annoying, especially when you got four hours of sleep and are late to an 8 30 class, lol.
