Question About Course(s)! :)

Hey everyone,

So I was wondering if someone could help me out here.. I'm most probably going to do Pre-Med in college with a major in something non-science most probably major in an Art/Humanity (like Psychology, Sociology, Theater, Film or Journalism something like that) so if I do that, will I have the availability to select some random courses that I'll do just for fun? Like just out of curiosity in different fields that come as an interest to me? (Like Religion or Russian or Comparative English Literature or something like that) Will I be able to take at least one course a semester, that's just for fun, doing Pre-Med with let's say.. a Psychology Major?? (Maybe that curiosity course can fill in a General Education Requirement?)

And, in your opinion, since I'm not a college student I can't say, how is the course variety/availability at Emory? Do departments generally offer a lot of courses per semester? And are they hard to get a seat in? As compared to other schools.

Also, last question is, how is the basic education system at Emory? Like, they say it's a "liberal arts education" and stuff, but I also read that they're are too many Requirements and too many rules etc etc.. Is that true? Are the General Education Requirements too much as compared to other schools? And is Emory's basic GED curriculum good?

If someone could answer these questions, it would be more than helpful! :D

Here is the course catalog for the College. It is also broken down into classes that will fulfill the GER’s.

[Class Schedules (Atlas) | Emory College of Arts and Sciences](<a href=“Welcome to Emory College.”>Welcome to Emory College.)

As a freshman you sign up for classes a day or two before they actually start which can be stressful but you have an opprotunity to sign up for 2 classes you’re REALLY interested and then after that everyone is able to sign up for 2 more. I lucked out with my schedule and pretty much got every class that I wanted but I had an earlier sign uo time than most. Some of my friends didn’t get the classes they wanted, but there’s always next semester/year.

Overall I would say, no, getting into the classes you want is not always guarantee but for the most part your scheduling will work out.
