So my parents happen to be very noncompliant. They have also lost all of my paperwork regarding tax forms and income (they insist that they do anything which I'm glad for besides the fact that this year they lost everything). I guess on how much money I made because I have worked 3 different jobs this year and my parents have lost the folder with about everything it in. My father also happens to be quite unreliable, he is claiming that I didn't file a tax return but I don't really trust him, but I put will not file anyways. Will any of this get me in trouble?

If you want a copy of your tax return, call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 to request a free tax transcript. It takes a few weeks, so if you need the return sooner, you will need to have it faxed. If you hit 0, you’ll be able to talk to an operator to request that it be faxed to you. From now on, keep your own copies of your information. It’s good to get into the habit.

If you didn’t file a return, they will tell you there is none on file for your social security number. If you earned less than $5700 (and had less than $900 in unearned income, I believe), you are not required to file a return, so you won’t get in trouble.

Alright thank you. One thing I am concerned about though is I made 9 thousand or so last year, so I listed 10k on the FASFA. Hopefully I won’t get in trouble? My dad is now claiming they kicked back my tax return because he thinks I only made 2200, should’ve been doing this myself from the start!

The IRS actually has copies of your W2’s. You can request a wage transcript, which will list all wages reported by your employers as earnings associated with your social security number.

Sounds like it’s time for you to take charge of your financial information. Not a bad thing, just something you have to do. Good luck.

Perfect thank you kelsmom!!
