Hi,
So today I opened a financial aid package that said I was going to get x amount of money for fall of 2017 and x amount of money for the spring of 2018. Now my question is, is this financial aid only for my freshman year of college or is it for my freshman and sophomore year of college?
If your freshman year of college is 2017/18 then half of the aid is for fall 2017 semester, and the other half for spring 2018 semester.
Your sophomore year would be 2018/19, so fall 2018 and spring 2019.
You would not know the aid for sophomore year yet, because it would be based on the financial aid forms for school year 2018/19 that you can file starting in October of 2017.
Thank you!
I also received generous financial aid grant money from an expensive private school I was accepted at, however, my D is in sales and earned a large commission at the end of last year which likely will disqualify me for need based grant aid money for my sophomore year I’m guessing. My parents agree but need to finish doing their taxes. Do you think I should contact the school’s admissions or financial aid offices to see if I can get a package with merit aid instead? Or if I qualified, would I have already received some merit aid? Would the net price calculator tell me? I know some who did not have any financial need but received merit money from this school.
They won’t change you from merit-based to need-based aid and besides, merit-based aid rarely is substantial. Moreover, they won’t review your financial aid situation until your taxes are complete and they have the full financial picture. So wait and see. If your family’s resources do go up this year, you aid will probably go down in future years.
