We printed out some forms that my S has to give his teachers/counselor for recommendations. However, the forms ask you to fill out the top portion and some ask for other information to be filled out as well, such as class schedule, etc.

My S filled them out but his handwriting is so sloppy. Is there a way to type into these forms if you don't have Adobe? Do people always hand write or do they find a way to type?

Thanks for any input!

If your son has filled them out by hand and thus has done the work of coming up with the information, I don’t see a big problem with your recopying them in neater handwriting as this is one thing a parent could do.

How about typing them in Word, formating to fit the blank, and cutting (physically with scissors) and pasting them onto the form?
Back in the day before everything was online, my son’s counselor took one look at his handwriting and set him up with permission to use the counseling department’s wide-carriage typewriter to fill out his paper forms.
Do what you need to to keep your kid from being judged by his handwriting!

Seconded. I have a nerve abnormality and my handwriting is atrocious, filling out forms is one thing my mom generally does for me. I do the work but she does that part for me if she has time.

I think most people write by hand. I’d say most people use their neatest writing, but working in an office processing paperwork I know that’s not true. As long as it is legible it’s fine. If it’s not, it may be simplest just to write it out for him or tell him his writing is unacceptable and to do it again

You can type the information, literally paste it in, and then photocopy the forms.

If you can’t type directly onto the form, and the form is only one page, you can try this trick: In microsoft word, insert a picture watermark. The picture watermark, of course is the form. Deselect the washout option. Now you can insert text boxes to fill out the form. This is time consuming enough so that it is only worth it for those with really bad hand writing.

Or, less convolutely, make/scan the file into a PDF and use a “typewriter” tool.
There’s a good list/review here: [Best Free PDF Tools](http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/best-free-pdf-tools.htm)

OMG…do people really do all this for multiple colleges? I mean, if were just a matter of having the right software it would be one thing, but I feel like scanning, copying, typing onto another piece of paper and somehow pasting…all seems to be overkill.

So now I’m thinking that most kids do just fill out the forms in their handwriting!

As long as it’s legible it should be fine. I have horrendous handwriting, and so far as I know, nothing bad has ever come of it.

Here’s one place where a parent can help. If your kid is incapable of writing neatly, I would have the parent fill out that portion. Why not?
