Our daughter is covered under my husband's Cigna policy. Do we still have to buy the health insurance Harvard has for its students? We are not in Massachusetts, so would it be better for our D to have her health insurance with Harvard for better coverage? I would appreciate any ideas, comments or suggestions. Thanks!

you are allowed to apply to waive the harvard student health insurance if you have your own. you will still have to pay a general health services fee that all students pay to keep the university health services up and running. in terms of coverage, you’ll have to find out from cigna how their coverage is in boston. i mostly use my BCBS (i’ve used harvard student health insurance a few times, though), and i haven’t had a problem with that around here, but your mileage may vary.

because you pay the health services fee, your daughter will be able to go to UHS and get a lot of medical care for free. uhs does charge you ten bucks if you schedule an appt and miss it, though. rx cost money, of course, according to insurance.
