I’m wondering if this is a hook:
I work as a HS intern for the National Cancer Institute, and I have numerous opportunities to do research that can be published.
If (emphasis on If) I can conduct experiments and say, get 1 or 2 papers published in nationally recognized science journal, can this be considered a hook?
Thanks for your input!

A hook is something that makes you stand out from the crowd. To me, at least, it is something about your interests rather than something that you have done. I would phrase it more that your hook is that you have an intense interest in medical research, and then use the internship to show your motivation and accomplishments.

all right, thanks!

to get a couple of papers published in a peer-reviewed, scientific journal is a huge accomplishment for anyone. If you can pull that off (& enjoy doing so), I'd definitely talk it up.

Assuming the journal you are speaking of is peer-reviewed, do you have time? Many take a while to get through the system. Still noteworthy to have a paper or 2 "in review" or "submitted", but of course being able to cite the journal publication is best.
