I attend a public high school in Philadelphia (Central High School) and I just want to know if that will help or hurt my chances of getting into Penn.
It will help. Penn has a contract with Philly to take certain number of students each year.
It will help if all your other stats are close to being in line with other applicants. It won’t help if your stats are significantly worse.
Penn takes a ton of students from Central, so you have an advantage if you’re at the top of your class and are involved.
@aoeuidhtns Does participating at the Young Scholar Program at Penn, and Summer Biomedical Acedemy at Penn count (They were both free to Philadelphia students)?
For sure, along with any other extracurriculars you spend time on.
I just hope that they don’t think that I attended them only because they are “free” instead of me actually trying to experience what Penn and college is like in general…
