I am roman catholic, but I am not very religious. Most of my views contradict those of your average roman catholic. (Meaning, I am liberal, which annoys many of my catholic friends.)

Would someone like me be out of place at BC? I go to church, but nowhere close to every week. I wouldn’t want to go to BC if I would be seen as this psycho left-wing liberal who hates religion.

I apologize if this comes across as a stupid question, but any input is appreciated. Thanks.

Mcrimmins28~our D is a senior at BC, and our least religious child. Like you she is catholic, but has distanced herself from all the organized aspects of our religion for some years. She also considers herself very liberal.

That being said--she has LOVED Boston College, completely and totally!! She has had a wonderful experience there, did not feel any religious pressures at all, and has many terrific friends!!

It is not a stupid question--you want to know what the atmosphere is like at a school you are considering. If you don't ask, you are lacking the information you feel you need to make an important (and expensive!) decision.

Good luck!

My D is a sophomore at BC and is also a catholic, but rarely attends mass while at school. What she has discovered though is that many students are involved in community/service type projects and she and I both see these as practicing your religion in a more open and honest way. Community service is very big at BC and many students are involved in a variety of service-type activities. I think your views are probably like many of the students at BC. Don't say no just because it is a jesuit institution. I agree with irishforever that most students LOVE BC and have completely consumed the kool-aid, so to speak:)

Thanks to both of you. The community service aspect is very impressive to me, and that sounds like an incredible atmosphere to spend the next 4 years of my life.
