If I apply SCEA to Yale, will my chances of being accepted really improve? Numerically speaking, I have noticed that SCEA applicants are accepted at a higher rate, but I have heard many people mention that the numbers are deceiving because many SCEA applicants who are accepted are either stellar athletes (I'm on 1 varsity sport, but I'm not exceptional) or legacies.

nope they wont really improve. youre right that a higher percentage get accepted ea than rd, but that number is artificially inflated by legacies and recruited athletes. chances for a nonlegacy nonathlete are about even either way. if youre totally in love with yale, by all means go for it and apply ea. if youre not, or if youre not sure, don't apply ea just because you think itll give you a better chance...it wont and thats totally not the point anyway. they accept people who love learning and yale, and if youre faking it to get in theyll know.

From what I can see a lot of nonathletes and nonlegacies make it in SCEA, who otherwise would not have. So I think there is a better chance. And doesn't applying EA show passion and absolute desire to go to your # 1 choice in any case?

I agree with iam, schools want students who are very interested in attending their institution and demonstrate that desire, for example by applying early, Yale is no exception.
