Question about selective vs unselective schools

So I've heard mixed opinions about this topic, and wanted some opinions from this board. For students who intend to go on to Medical, Law, or other graduate schools, is it smarter to go to a selective, prestigious university where the student would be kind of towards the middle to lower end of their class, and make a lower GPA due to the more rigorous academics, or go to a less prestigious but still good/decent school where they'd be at the top of their class and make a high GPA?

Go to a lesser school and get a higher GPA. Although that assumes that you wouldn’t do well at the higher school.

True. I guess a better way of putting it is that it would be more difficult to stand out at a higher level school where everyone is extremely intelligent, as well as the greater difficulty in achieving a higher GPA.

Be careful when you say “other graduate schools.” Getting accepted to Medical, Law, and Business schools are all very different. For Medical and Law, I would recommend a school you can excel in (while still challenging yourself…) and save money. For Business School, definitely go for the more prestige.

I don’t know that I agree about the business school recommendation. Just like with the other two, if you have excellent grades and a great GMAT score, your odds of getting in to a pretty good program are good.
