Question about Stafford sub and unsub loans

My D will be taking the $5500 total Stafford, the typical amount of sub and unsub together totals the $5500. (Can't recall the breakdown at the moment) Can anyone tell me how much is kept as a fee or whatever, and how much the school will actually receive? Trying to figure out the actual amount we will be paying for our contribution and just realized I wasn't sure how much of the Stafford is never actually paid to the school. Thanks.

Stafford loans that have been disbursed between 7/1/2010 and 6/30/2011 will carry a 1.0% origination fee.

^wait… what does that mean???

Oh, I just read it’s less:
* For all Direct Subsidized Loans and Direct Unsubsidized Loans for which the earliest disbursement date is on or after July 1, 2010, the up-front interest rebate is changing from 1.0 percent to 0.5 percent.
That is just a small percent of the loan amount, for example 0.5% of 5500. about 27.00.

It means that for every $1000 you borrow you will actually receive $990 (or $995 id the fee is 0.5%)
