Question about the food

<p>After TMI, I understand that the ground was contaminated for perhaps 100 miles around the plant, making everything grown there suspect. Does anyone know if they import fruits and vegetables to the cafeterias or are the fruits and vegetables they serve on campus locally grown?</p>

<p>Most of the food the dining hall is serving is bought pre-made or frozen, or doesn't even grow here (e.g. bananas, oranges, water mellons, etc). The only exception might be apples, pears and a few of the fresh vegetables in the salad bar. Judging from the packaging, I doubt that most items are locally grown though. You can e-mail one of the dining hall managers and find out for sure. </p>

<p>We also have one or two local dinners every year as part of the special dinners series. But you can buy your own food or get a take-out meal in advance if you would rather avoid those two meals.</p>

<p>That being said, I doubt there's anything to be concerned about because there was not that much radioactive material released. People living 10 miles from the power plant were exposed to about 8 millirem of radioactivity. To put this into perspective, a chest x-ray uses 6 millirem.</p>
