Question about the May 1 deadline, can I make en. deposits to 2 colleges for time?

Okay, so I've narrowed my choices down to 2 schools, Ithaca College and UT Austin for journalism, Ithaca definitely has the better journalism school but less recognized name and it will be $5,000 more a year than UT Austin. Really torn and I don't think I'll have a decision by May 1 as I'm waiting to hear about a scholarship from UT and about additional aid from Ithaca. So if I submit enrollment deposits to both colleges by May 1, does that mean I still have time to make a decision??? I know that if I don't get it in by that time then my admission will be canceled, but what I'm asking is what will happen if I send an enrollment deposit in for both??? I know that the money will be non-refundable by that time and that's fine with me.

don’t send a deposit for both. the last thing you want to do is jepordize your spot at both colleges. just send in your deposit to Ithaca because you know what they gave you and I’m sure that UT Austin will be willing to give you more time to make your decision because you will be notified of your aid so late. If you change your mind then all you would lose is the non-refundable deposit you send to Ithaca.

The best answer: NO

If they find out you double deposited, you might not be going to either.

Ask them for an extension to the reply deadline. Since financial aid for both are pending, they’ll probably let you have a few more days to decide.

You can accept both and then withdraw from one. Penalty is loss of any deposit for one from which you withdraw. It is not true that one will kick you out if it learns you accepted both.

^Are you sure? Also, I’m waiting to hear from a scholarship I got interviewed for (UT specific) b/c so far UT has given me NO aid in my financial aid package just a bunch of loans, but even so Ithaca is still $5,000 more with all the aid they gave me.

Are you sure that you are still being considered for a scholarship at UT? It’s very late in the game. You should call UT Admission’s and find out if incoming freshmen have been notified of all possible scholarships. Chances are that if you haven’t heard by now, you’re not getting the scholarship. Give them a call.

^It’s for the dallas texas exes. You see, UT is so big that they have different chapters around the country that give out scholarships, the scholarship is for students going to UT, but UT admission and financial aid don’t decide if you get it or not, the texas exes do. They actually had their last interviews about a week ago so I’m thinking they’re almost done with evaluations now.

Dont commit to 2 colleges!

You should just ask for an extension…or perhaps make a deposit at one if the other decides to give you a reply extension. There’s a thread running on the Parents forum about why NOT do double deposit.
