how long are the quarters? is there any break between the end of one and the beginning of another?

10 weeks, and yes.

They are on break now as winter term finals just ended on wednesday, the 15th and the spring term begins on tuesday, the 28th.

Thanks! I appreciate the reply.

the quarter system sucks especially for math and science classes bc it is really difficult to cram an entire math or science course into 10 weeks and actually learn the material

You're the first person I've heard to say that, but I do appreciate your input. In any case, it doesn't look all too bad to me.

As a Floridian, Dartmouth winters are not a strong selling point.

I understand that you MUST attend Winter term as a freshman and again as a senior. Most schools offer a reduced schedule of courses during summer terms. Does Dartmouth offer a full schedule over summer? Is it possible to get all the classes you need by attending Fall/Spring/Summer terms, and avoiding the other Winter terms altogether?

By Florida standards, Fall and Spring are like winter terms...8^)

with planning, you can schedule your D plan so that you can be "off" during the winter term sophmore and junior year.

On Dartmouth's website
GO Current undergrads
registrar

prospectus (if link does not work)

then you will get an idea of what is being offered over each term in each department thru spring 2007

You'll have to be there two winters, but I went almost two years without ever seeing one...

of course, summer course offerings are smaller as only sophomore class is on. but it's not to a point where you will be like "what the hell am i doing here"

plus, as you'll see, sophomore summer is a 10 week long party.

the quarter system is great for slackers and crammers. you only have to cram 3 courses in one finals period. it's glorious.

Lol, so true!
