Hey, I have a couple quetions. What is the tutorial system? There were two other things I saw on the boards that seemed to make Williams unique. I just forgot them. Any ideas?
thanks

Winter study thats it. What is that?

Also What is the entry system? Thanks a ton

Tutorial - one professor, two students. Students take turns - one writes paper, defends verbally, other student writes shorter response to paper, defends verbally.

Entry system - freshman residential program where the dorms are naturally separated into "entries" ; can be vertical entries or horizontal entries.

thank you...What is winter study? Is it just another semester?

Winter study is the time between Fall and Spring semesters where you take a cool class for just one month. http://www.williams.edu/admission/academics_winter.php
They offer lots of different non-traditional courses or you can create your own. My S took tournament bridge this year.

There is also a program with Oxford. About 26 juniors or so study abroad there each year. I think Rhode scholars come out of this program, so some years it may be competitive, but, I am told, if you sincerely want to get into the program you can. I suggest perusing through the Course Catalogue, as there is a lot of information about Williams-Exeter Programme, including a list of courses that are offered yearly. When studying at Oxford, students typically take four tutorials each semester, many of which deal with PPE (political science, philosophy, and economics) and, of course, English.

I suggest that prospective students grab a course catalogue from the admissions office if they can, because there is a lot of useful information concerning Williams, majors, Williams-Mystic, Williams-Exeter, the curriculum, etc.

Also, if anyone is wondering, Williams created a website for admitted students, where all of our questions are answered and where we chat, so that might explain why this board is relatively dead.

thanks again guys
