Question about "yield protection"

There are kids with 4.0 UW GPAs, 1550+ SATs, strong ECs with leadership, and significant course rigor being accepted EA to schools like Tulane, Case and Northeastern. Why is that? If it is just an issue of yield protection leading to deferring high stat students, why are any being accepted EA?

Perhaps their data science model tells the schools that these kids come from particular geographies or circumstances are more prone to matriculate than those other kids that are likely to not matriculate. I also think students should look at their own school record as an additional variable in assessing the perceived rigor of their program. And that could vary widely across schools.

The question as posed will remain unsolved and now we’re just swapping anecdotes and having circular conversations, which indicate that the thread has outlasted its usefulness. Closing.
