Question- complex situation

Here's a little background: HS I had a weighted GPA of 3.7 (had a lot of EC, pres of clubs, awards, etc), but went to Mass state school for financial reasons. I did somewhat poorly in the state school and ended with a 2.35GPA my freshman year. I had still intended to continue at the state school but for some freak reason did not get housing (it was an office mix up, I was NOT on AP or anything) With no choice, I decided to go to Cape Cod CC where I ended with a 3.6 GPA. However, I had to commute a looong way bc I lived at home on an island, so now for my fourth semester I am going to move in with my bf and go to Holyoke CC where the commute is much easier. My gpa with 3 semesters is on a 2.8 and only 28 credits.

I am applying for Fall '09 to Elon, Marist, Hampsire, and Sweet Briar, grades aside, do you think that all my moving around will be stacked against me? I only have 28 credits in 3 semesters... do you think it would be smarter to take 2 semesters at HCC, boost my gpa, and apply for Spring 10? Or will my 3.7 in HS be enough. I am also taking my SATs again, I don't know if that will help, I had a 1550 and think I could do better.

Love your screen name.

"Grades aside", I don't think your moving around will be held against you.

I think the grades will, of course, not be "aside." Your HS GPA typically will weigh less than your college/cc GPA. However, your upward trend in college grades is very good, so continue on that path.

As to whether it would be better to apply for Fall 09 or build a better track record and apply for Spring 10, I have only questions - no answers:
1. Do those schools all take Spring transfers?
2. Do you know the acceptance rates for transfers at those schools? The higher the rate, the less you will ahve to worry about this.
3. Do you think you can get good advice on this from the transfer counselors at your old or new cc? I would try for their opinions, based on their experience with students from the particular schools.
