Hey everyone! Dartmouth is one of the schools I’m seriously considering attending, but one factor I don’t know much about is quality of LGBTQ+ student life, specifically for transgender students. This is a major factor for me, and I was wondering more specifically about whether or not transgender students can have a good time in Greek life at Dartmouth.
My sense is that the sororities are very accepting (see article here http://thedartmouth.com/2016/04/19/panel-focuses-on-exclusivity-in-the-greek-system/ about 11 paragraphs down), and the women’s rugby in D’s time had one player who was transitioning to male (and who knows how many LGBQ). No biggie for anyone. Almost all the house parties are open (to everyone except first years), so that would not be a big deal. No idea what the attitude of the fraternities might be as far as rush & pledging are concerned.
Dartmouth also has an LLC (living learning community) for incoming Freshmen that is devoted to LGBT community. All people that apply to live in this community their first year is put in a dorm full of other members of the LGBT community and allies. Hopefully this allays concerns!
