Question List for a visit to a Film Production Program

Many, many animation programs are in art schools, but here are a couple of suggestions for you in terms of the overall college experience:

Thanks Digmedia. Yes, DS is accepted to animation (EA) at LMU. Apps are in at Chapman Dodge and USC. Not many LACs with animation! He doesn’t want a straight art school, though he will submit to some soon to ensure good options. He knows there are some magnificent art school-based programs, but he feels he’d fit in better at an LAC and really wants that experience.Tough decision!
We will check out your suggestions!
Thanks.

Congrats to your S, gladiatorbird. And more congratulations to maddenmd on Emerson. I recall the relief when my 2 sons received those first acceptances. Such a relief!

Itsthattime, while double majoring in addition to a film production major at USC is a challenge, that production major in SCA is a BA–not BFA or conservatory-- and many, like my younger son, do double major. He’s double majoring in Theatre Design, and it’s a time puzzle fitting in all the classes plus extra-curricular work plus the amazing opportunities outside the classroom, but it can be done. And my older son did the USC Thematic Option Honors program, which is a wonderful option for students looking for the LAC experience, with small classes and with the university’s top profs. I only post this info for others who may be looking for schools in the future, and I do understand your S’s great love for Columbia. I mean–Columbia is amazing! And NYC!!!

Thanks Madbean for pointing out those options - they sound really intriguing and a great way to get both an amazing film major and an LAC experience. Like I said, USC was really appealing to my son and I do not believe he heard about the thematic honors option - that would have been right up his alley. However, he is absolutely thrilled with his outcome and the incredible opportunities that await him. While he knows that his production class time will be really limited, he feels that between the graduate school and internships he will be get a lot of hands on experience. It is just so exciting to hear how excited our children are about all the options! Your sons’ programs sound wonderful but tiring!
