hey everyone, i was wondering, their’s this kid at school that is a very good student and a very great character, that deserves more than anybody, to go to his number one school. my question is though, would admissions officers look down upon it if i, a fellow classmate, wrote a letter to the admissions people, without the kid who’s applying’s knowledge. would this hurt his admission chances, or not?
Can you specify? Do you mean that you want to submit a letter to admissions recommending them to accept the student? That’s actually very sweet. That would definitely not hurt his chances, but I wouldn’t really recommend that course of action for reasons I can’t explain.
Feel free to send one, but they probably won’t take it into consideration, since it would be unfair to do so.
This is a case where your good intentions could backfire. Why should YOU write a letter? What qualifies you? And, without his knowledge? Are you strong enough intellectually- and, in terms of your core writing skills, your ability to structure and your grammar- to impress an adcom? I think it’s intrusive. It is not a good deed. It would probably cause the adcom to scratch their heads…about YOU. Sorry.
ps. I hope it isn’t your actual intention to write a letter for the wrong reasons.
I would not. Most letters of recommendation come from people of high regard, and not to offend you at all, colleges would want to see it from an adult with experience.
Besides, many colleges do not accept letters of recommendation anymore.
