Question regarding Cornell Decision

I got rejected from Cornell CAS as fresh. transfer..

I thought my stats would be pretty competitive:

3.8-3.9 GPA (32 credits) at Univ. of Southern Cal, Marshall School of Business
1480 SAT (old)

One thing is that...I applied on the last day (I think March 15?!)...do you think that had a lot to do with my rejection?? I'm really curious if that was such a big factor. Thanks

the only way i could see it affecting you decision is because they reviewed the applications by order of them getting it and since urs was so late, they accepted the ppl they wanted already.

but that doesnt make sense because i didnt get a decision yet and i submitted my application in late jan

how'd you get you're decision, via the website?

Because I have to send in my deposit for NYU Stern...I called them and asked them. Surprisingly, they told me over the phone.

welcome to the club, truthat.

Dude everyone has been getting rammed in the ass by Cornell. I had a 4.0 and I got rejected, but I go to a no name school. Kid's from top twenty schools have been rejected with 4.0s. Don't take it personally. Just become really rich in life and then go back and find out who made your decision and be like "how do you like me now, biatch"

K BYE

lol matm.

so true.

are you serious? i didn't know cornell was that competitive...

It's called having an inferiority complex... I have documented Evidence that the Ghost of Ezra Cornell has emboided the whole admissions team and is having his revenge for his school being called the backdoor to the Ivy Leagues...

Honestly, I don't get why it was that tough. Especially judging off of last year's admit rate:

http://dpb.cornell.edu/documents/1000156.pdf

WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH CORNELL THIS YEAR?

The guy with a 4.0 from Rice who got rejected!? 3.8~3.9 +1490 rejected!?

This is crazy. I am so glad I had a guaranteed transfer... otherwise I would have been, as matm1 so eloquently put it, "rammed in the ass" as well.

That looks a bit more competitive than I expected. 141 out of 794 for CAS. That really isn't that high of an admit rate at all, only 17%.

guys idk what the f is going on w. cornell, and i go here, its really a conundrum, like i literally had no idea it was this hard to get in as a transfer to CAS

good luck though...maybe u guys better off not getting in

as of now, if things don't work out for me, i am prob transfering to the Univ of Chicago......thats if penn and columbia or brown don't come thru

OR i may stay at cornell

haha, damn, i'm screwed... i did write a pretty kick ass essay.. i think.. i hope...

cornell is kind of weird with their admissions...ive heard that they admit qualified applicants who they think will go there, rather than the creme de la creme (who typically ditch them for the upper ivies)..so that could explain the 4.0 rejection from rice, etc.

Since Cornell's rank is not determined by their transfer yield, this factor is irrelevant.

they would still want to admit people that they think would go there

They have no real incentive to do so. Nearly all exigencies in selecting a freshman class are not present in selecting transfers.

what benefit would they reap in admitting people who would go elsewhere while the slightly less competitive applicants that they could have had are waitlisted/losing interest in the school? it makes sense to get the best applicants while still being practical about it

look at the patterns of admissions from the past few years..people who are admitted at harvard, yale, brown, penn, etc. are waitlisted or denied at cornell

Yes.. that is also why Cornell has a guaranteed transfer program.. where students who are clear admits might still be admitted at higher ranked schools and matriculate there...

No, no, no.... Cornell is rolling when it comes to releasing decisions only, i.e. the applictions are NOT evaluated as the come, but the decisions are sent as they are made. It's a little tricky. That is exactly why you are waiting on your January application, while some March 15 applications have already been reviewed. In conclusion, I would like to add that Cornell does make the application process not only selective but also competitive. This is why they don't release decisions in order of the mail-in day, and this is why they start with reducing the applicant pool or what we here at CC call 'a wave of rejections'.
