Question that could affect me forever :O

Ok. so i was thinking, and im a junior right now, and my sister is gonna graduate from college this year. and shes taking a year off and then going to grad school. in this situation, if i start college as the same time she starts grad school, and our parents pay for both of our educations, do we get to say we have 2 kids in college? cuz i wanna know if well be able to have the benefit of saying we have two kids in college.

No, your parents are not responsible for graduate school. Your sister is responsible for paying her own schooling. Although, there are exceptions where some programs will ask for your parents information. But, generally your sister will not put down any of your parents information on the fafsa and will say there is only one person in her household.

Re: that graduate school question...it depends on the school. Some schools continue to "count" grad students who are still declared as dependents on taxes and who receive parental financial support (this is VERY different than independence for financial aid purposes) on their parents as both members of the family AND other students enrolled in college. Some colleges do NOT allow this...the don't count the grad student as a student enrolled in college on the undergrad's finaid applications.

The only way to know is to call the school for their individual policy. The undergrad school DD attends DOES continue to count her grad school sib as a college student. Another school she applied to, told us up front that they would not.

Bottom line...this is another policy that varies from school to school...so call the school directly.

oh sorry, i didnt even realize i posted this question twice -__-
