Question to all those who took the risk" of skipping...

ahh, but there seems to be a misunderstanding..!

the question ISN’T whether i should SKIP or not, the question is if i should study some pre calc / ab stuff this summer or not!

my schedule has already been finalized, and i am into bc, but should i learn some stuff that i skipped (ab material, mostly) OR will i already learn that IN BC?

You will learn relevant AB material in BC (basic differentiation/integration). You should look at trigonometry yourself, though, because being familiar with the concepts helps immensely.

It would definitely be to your advantage to know about radian measure and equations using trigonometric functions. For instance, you should know that (cos^2 a) + (sin^2 a) = 1.

Definitely look at the Arco book.

Until seeing stuff about it on this site, I didn’t even know that some schools let people take BC without AB first, 'cause in my school no one ever ever ever does that (and everyone gets 5s on AB and BC. XD) There’s a set order (Alg. II, Pre-Calc, AB, BC) and no one ever breaks it unless they take something over the summer.

That said, if your school is one that lets people skip from Pre-Calc to BC, there’s definitely going to be AB material review in the beginning of the year. Still read Arco so you’re not behind most of the class… and so you can prove to the administrators that you belong. But don’t worry too much. Pre-Calc is all but completely useless, btw.

BUT if your school rarely lets people take even BC without AB, that’s all the more reason to read some of Arco and familiarize yourself with the material that your teacher might just assume everyone knows. I mean, if it’s the norm to take AB before BC, you’re gonna need to know how to derive and integrate…

소녀시대… let me guess. you’re korean. lol

i haven’t taken pre-calc yet but i’ve heard it’s like if you get one lesson then it’s completely useless doing all the practice questions cuz they’re all alike. then again i could be wrong.
um, congrats i guess? for getting into bc? lol

Actually, some schools force you to take calculus AB because in calculus BC, they cover calculus 2 and multivariable…

You seriously need to ask someone…if your school is like that, there is no way you will be able to do anything.

By the way, you’ll probably be forced down into precalculus as soon as they find out.

You didn’t consult the department head, or anyone…so you really have no “reason” to be in the class. Usually, you have to run everything by the department…

Why didn’t you ask this earlier?? I would have recommended that you take a precalculus course over the summer, but that choice is nonexistent as of now.

Not to sound too cynical or anything. haha

Yeah if you’re skipping, why not study? Haha sort of obvious question.

YEAH that’s what my school does! The course name is like… 'Calc C / Multivariable Calc" or something. Glad to see we’re not just stupid. XD

Nope. I thought so too.

The minute I saw the thread I knew it meant skipping academic levels, not skipping class. Only on CC, of course.
