Questions about Admission Release

I have a few specific questions about Penn’s Admission Decision release process:

  1. Does the portal usually get overloaded by the number of people checking their decisions, does the site usually crash?
  2. Do they just write the word “accepted” or “denied” or “deferred”? or do they show you a copy of a letter?
  3. About what time of day do the decisions usually get released?
  4. On the applicant portal, how do you see the decision? is there a button that says “click here for your decision”?
  5. Does Penn send mailed decisions as well? If so, do they only mail acceptances or do they mail denials and deferrals as well?
  1. No clue. Probably not?
  2. My understanding is that if you get accepted there’s a congratulatory video. Search up “UPenn acceptance video” on youtube, and you should get a good understanding from the top results. Not sure about deferral, but for rejection they just write the same letter about how they can’t accept all their qualified applicants, etc.
  3. 5:00 PM on 12/11/2015 is this year’s timing
  4. Log in, and the decision is on the top of your portal
  5. Not sure about this one. They definitely mail you information if you get in, but more and more these days things are digital and online.
  1. No. Only about 5,500 people applied ED this year, and not everyone is going to check their decisions at the same time. The servers for the Penn website are definitely able to handle a couple thousand people on at one time.
  2. They write a letter. If it says “Congratulations!” and “Hurrah, hurrah, Pennsylvania!” then you’re in. Anything else and you’re either deferred or rejected. But it’ll be a letter.
  3. 5:00 eastern time on December 11th, 2015.
  4. No you just log-in and it shows up.
  5. If you submitted your application online, you receive an online letter. If you mailed in your application on paper, you receive a paper decision. You won’t receive a paper decision if you applied online, but if you get accepted then you will receive some stuff in the mail regarding housing, meal plans, etc.
