Hello,

I learned today that I was not only accepted into one of the school I applied to, I was awarded a merit scholarship. I did not apply for this scholarship, and while I have heard of it, I am not exactly sure what it means. The letter did not indicate how much money I was awarded, is there some sort of set amount? What exactly is a merit scholarship? The letter went on to say that the scholarship would be revoked should I ever not make honor roll at their school (the boarding school). At my current school, I have always made honor roll except for one trimester in 7th or 8th grade. However, I am not sure that I will make honor roll this trimester due to missing a lot of school because of an illness. I am confident that my final grades for the year will be up to par, just as they have been in previous years. Will this scholarship be revoked because I did not receive a place on the honor roll list for one trimester? I'm sorry if these are silly questions, I just have no clue what to think.

Thanks!

It depends on which school.

A merit scholarship is awarded based solely on merit (look it up!) and not on financial need. It’s usually awarded to students that the school really wants to accept their offer of admission, so congratulations! The amount would depend on the specific scholarship at that individual school. The letter should have been somewhat specific, but I’m guessing that the school website has more information.
If their letter specified that you must make honor roll at their school - don’t worry about your current school. If you’re really worried, give them a call. Be sure to say Thanks!

I wasn’t informed about this. Congratulations!!!

This sounds like what I got about a scholarship at kent. I think hat as long as you stay on honor roll at THAT SPECIFIC SCHOOL (not your current one) you will be completely fine. Also, have you parents look at the portal because if it is for kent then on their portal it should say how much money you got

Did you get one too? @newyorkerrr

Wow, nice job! We have a lot of acceptances this year, that’s great!

Just a guess but if you applied for financial aid, your financial aid packet (which for many schools is separate from your admissions email) may list the dollar amount of the scholarship too. Congrats to you both!

Financial aid wasn’t listed for Peddie, I think my friend said.

Thank you everyone, my mom called the school and everything is sorted out.
