Questions about competitions as activities in common app

Is studying for math/CS competitions considered an activity to be included on the common app? I have spent a significant amount of time studying for these competitions, certainly more than some of my other extracurriculars, but would it be best just to include the award (USA(J)MO Qualifier) in common app with the studying time implicit or actually have studying as an activity.

Certainly you include the award. If one plays a musical instrument, and practices however many hours per day, one could put that down in activities. If one were a competitive skater, and skated 4 hours/day, one would put that down. So I suppose that as long as you don’t put down homework hours, but specify it as preparation for specific, named math and computer science competitions, that was above and beyond your normal homework for schoolwork, then you could put it down as such.
