Questions about conditional acceptance

Is there still any chance of acceptance if I don't suffice my condition of acceptance given by my school? For example, how about the case in which I don't get 5 in AP Bio, which is one of the conditions, but got high scores in others tests, which were also the conditions.

My counselor predicted my score of AP Biology as 5, but AP Biology underwent brutal revision of its curve so that only 5% of people can get 5 (the average percentage of people who get 5 in AP test is about 20%). So, nobody in my school got 5 in the last year. Although I'm pretty good at Biology, there is no guarantee that I can get 5 in this test, and I may get 4. Will some schools tolerate this even if I will apply for their Biology course? I think it totally depends on the school. I'm sure that ICL and UCL will not tolerate it, but maybe U of York and U of Manchester will do so. Would you agree with me? Can I explain this brutal revision to ICL and UCL adcom?

If your results aren’t good enough then it is worth phoning the university to ask whether they’d still be willing to accept you (my friend got into Oxford after missing his offer, but he was only a few marks off and he had a good interview), but this hardly ever happens. It would depend on the university, your overall application and whether the AP subject was particularly relevant to the course you’ve applied for. If it is then the chances are close to zero.

Thanks for your information. I’m so unfortunate to experience this change of test in my year of taking the test. It is so regrettable but I have to begin to regard schools of my second choice as my first choice, since it’s not practical to believe that I can get this 5% of chance.

It’s worth noting that the CB has not set a 5% rate for scores of 5 - it has brutally revised the exam so that it is a more genuine reflection of college level bio. The first year was always likely to be a lower rate, as everybody gets used to the new system. You can find a breakdown of where students ran into trouble here:

which might help you focus your studying. Also, there are other subjects with 5 & 7% scores of 5 - college board is not picking on bio!

Your info indeed helped me a lot. I hope the rate will be about 10% in the next year.
