Questions about CRH Admissions process & my chances

Hello everyone,

I am an eight grader who applied for CRH (and couple others, but CRH is my #1 choice) for the 2015-16 school year and was wondering few things about the application reviewing process and my chances of getting accepted.

Few questions about the admissions process first:

How do you know if your interview went good? Personally, I think mine went great, but that is just my opinion.

Also, does anyone know how competitive the applicant pool is this year?

Regarding my chances:

I have a good SSAT score, high 90th percentile, (overall) with a perfect score in math.
My grade had few bumps here and there but it never went below a 3.75 line and I always was on High Honors.

I play the cello quite well and I have few awards to support that. I also am in a few really good orchestras in the Chicago area.
(I also reached out to the orchestra director at the schools I am applying to and I believe several of them remembers me)

I also stated in my application that I play few sports, not insanely, but for recreational means. However, I also said that I used to play in a varsity hockey team 2 years ago.

I have no idea how my rec’s are but I am assuming that they are good.

I am not applying for financial aid.

SO: Can anyone please tell me what my chances of getting accepted will be? (I know I can’t do anything much now that I submitted my application like a month ago but I was still wondering)

I also have few questions regarding the school, so if anyone is willing to answer them, I’ll be so thankful!

I’ve visited several schools and CRH was the one that stood out the most for me. It didn’t seem like everyone was crazy about studying but I felt that education & everything else were proportionally balanced out. I really would love to study there and I’ll wait eagerly for your replies!

First of all, no one knows if their interview went “well” or not. As you said, it’s all about the opinion and the general “feel” you get from your interviewer. Sometimes, they even give positive feedback to your parents.

Other than that, you seem like a strong candidate. I have no clue how competitive the pool is this year.

Thanks for your reply!

So, if your interviewer gave very positive feedback to my parents, do they generally mean what they say?

Also, by any chance, are you a Choate alum?

He’s an applicant.

They probably do. I don’t see why your interview would lie and say good things about your parents. They probably are telling the truth.

No, I’m an applicant. I’m in the same boat as you! (I’m applying to Choate as well.)

Cool! Are you applying to be a third former?

What aspect of CRH did you like? And I’m just wondering, is CRH your top choice?

Also, what do you think of certain negative aspects of the school over the past few years? (I mean, Choate’s an amazing school but you can’t completely ignore those things that were on the news, now can we?)

  1. I’m applying for ninth.

  2. I like Choate in general. I have a friend that goes there, and she says its awesome. It also fits me perfectly (sports, music, academics)

  3. Choate is not THE first choice for me, but it is definitely one of my top choices.

  4. What was on the news? I’m actually pretty curious now. What happened?

Not to make light of this, but every school will have some issues. Pick a school and google its name and scandal, and all sorts of things will pop up. For the applicant, the important thing should be how the school responded to the situation, which IMO, Choate handled well.

skieurope-

Your completely right.

There was a facebook scandal at CRH like 3 years ago. The girls that goes there are also characterized as “Blair wanna-bees” (Blair, from meangirls) but I highly doubt that. Again, like how skieurope said, it’s all about how the schools responds to that and after reading more about it, I think they definitely did a great job of handling the situation!

Also, does anyone have any idea as to how competitive the pool is for this year?
