You can bring your own fridge and I know a lot of people who did that. Especially with bed risers it can fit right under the bed so it is pretty convenient with the space issue in most rooms like M&M. My roommate and I split a microfridge which took up a lot of room but I am happy we got it. I love coffee and hot tea so I used the microwave a lot. Plus we were in the 4th floor and late at night I was too tired/lazy to to walk all the way down to the one microwave in the dorm and back up.

And I definately recommend bringing your own printer. It is insanely convenient.

Hey does anyone know anything about the whole tv/cable thing that’s an option in dorm rooms? Like specifics and stuff? Just curious, thanks =]

BR92693 - There is one cable jack in each residence hall room. Service Electric Cable TVs full basic program cable is provided no additional charge.

Hi…does the dorm provide the bed risers or do we get them at Bed Bath and Beyond?

The dorms don’t provide them and you can get them at BB&B, but honestly I don’t recommend it. Very few people get bed risers because the beds at Lehigh are already really high up. I didn’t see many people at all use them because the mattresses (without bed risers) come up pretty high – like up to the waist/hip of a 6 foot guy. But if you really want them you can get 'em and they fit with the beds.

What about McConn? Are the rooms old/new, small/large? Is there room for a floor lamp? Would you recommend a floor fan or window fan? Any other tips would be greatly appreciated as well! (PS Is this an all-male dorm or coed?)

http://www4.lehigh.edu/Media/Website%20Resources/PDF/housing/centennial-I-double.pdf

They look a bit smaller than Dravo maybe because of the wardrobes. Not sure you would have room for a floor lamp. I hear the window fans work best. Check out the housing link on the website, it has very detailed info on each dorm including floor plans.

Cent 1 is the 2nd newest residence hall complex IIRC.

They are dorm rooms, of course they’re going to be small ;)

There is room for a floor lamp, provided its actual footprint isn’t too large. My friend had one in Smiley.

I’d recommend a small fan that you can put on your desk or refrigerator.

It will be either coed by room or coed by floor. None of the dorms at Lehigh are exclusively all male or all female.

I have a quick question about books. I know we already choose our classes but nothing is definite until orientation, so how am I suppose to buy books? I heard people say that it is much cheaper to get it them off amazon but will there be time to order my books online when I get to Lehigh because I’ll have to wait a few days for shipping

You can order them online the weekend you get to Lehigh and you should get them in the mail early enough – Most classes don’t even use the books for the first few days anyway (And for those who do you can always find someone to lend you a book for the first day or two). Buying the books (or renting them) at the bookstore is an OK option too if you want the security of definitely having the books despite it costing a little more money.

Amazon or Textbooks.com, do not buy them at the bookstore! Try to get used if you can also. I would order them now, you can always return one if a class changes, but for the most part your schedule should be pretty firm.

Is there a book list somewhere that shows what books are required for each course they selected?

Find your books here:

Now that many of you have given your deposit, I thought I would open this thread about dorms, what to bring etc…

thanks mumof2boyz. does each person get their own closet or do you have to share?

Hi christmascarol,

It depends on which dorm you’re in. Both Centennial complexes have individual “closets” without doors - sort of like large cubbies, as does M&M. Richards has individual closets and Dravo has one closet per room (so shared in the case of doubles or singles).

Best,

thanks! does anyone know how many feet above the floor the matress is?

Hey again christmascarol,

All the beds are the same, but when I was a freshman my bed was set up higher off the ground, now it’s lower. There are two settings for the bed, one gives you about 1 ft of room, the other gives you about 2-2.5 ft.

You can also get parts from the gryphons to loft your bed in order to put your desk or other larger items underneath, but I have never felt the need to do it.

Best,

Do the Dravo rooms have tiled or carpeted floors?

Dravo has tiled floors, my son brought an inexpensive area rug.
