Questions about life at USAFA

lmao, that happened in my quad! One of the girls was in my squad. twas funny.

Now I would like to have seen that...

As for taking the cake with Spirit missions, just wait.

[looks out the window]I thought it was sleeting like crazy just a second ago. And it's already clear and sunny? CO weather is bizzare...

There was chocolate cake tonight at Mitch's and I took some. I am thoroughly convinced that I am a psychic. :)

What clubs did you all sign up for yesterday in Arnold Hall? I put my name down for a lot of them, so I'm not sure which ones I'm going to do yet. For sure Ski club, and then I also asked for more information on the marathon club, triathalon club, mock trial, lacrosse, swing dancing... I can't remember what else.

Hey, if any of you applying to the Academy have any questions about applying to the Academy, basic training, or 4 degree life (so far ;)) in general, be sure to ask. Now that there are more of us on the other side, we'll try to help you out as best as we can. I had about a gazillion and seven questions and I always appreciated hornet and G4C and eagle answering them.

hehe, so, if i join a skiing club, can i learn how to ski? (never seen more than a centimeter of snow, about 10 yrs ago, seein as i live in southwest mississippi :) )

so redhead, how's the workload been so far? and what all can you do on the weekends as a 4dig for the next month or so? i figured i'd be productive and post here instead of facebook so all us 2012 hopefuls can learn :)

hey guys, what squadrons are you all in? any first groups cadets out there?

I'm a first grouper. Tiger Ten.

Needle, I'm from Texas and I have a full set of ski gear here now. The last time I skied was for PE class in Japan lol. I worked my way from green slopes in January to Black slopes at the end of February. It's amazingly fun here!

I am in Rock Hard Redeye 25!

I'm not great at skiing, but hornet said that you can still sign up and have a blast and get better at it. So that's what I'm doing. I started skiing back home, but I never got enough time on the slopes to not look ridiculous. :) So this should be interesting.

The workload here has been really manageable so far. I know we're only a little bit into the academic year, but you'll notice right away that being productive pays off. If you waste a lot of time, your life will probably suck right off the bat. If you actually use your free periods to study, stay on top of all your schoolwork, and prioritize correctly, you'll do just fine and you'll be a lot happier here than a lot of other people. You'll feel good because all your military stuff will be taken care of, you'll be prepared for class, you'll be working out daily, and you'll have time to still be a person and hang out with friends. I'm beginning to see that this place is all what you make it. You can be happy here, or you can be miserable and stressed out all the time. I'm not saying you have to be stract, but I am saying that it's just a lot more fulfilling to be efficient here. You'll also be more available to pull your own weight in the squad, and people will respect you more.

I think that's something everyone learns when they get here. For now, practice prioritizing, but mostly just enjoy your life and relax. Because you 2012ers will start the journey in just over 9 months (enough time to have a baby! crap, that's a ways away! :)) so get your fun in now.

Oh, and we can't sign out until after Parent's Weekend. In the meantime, that means we can go hiking on base, go to Arnold Hall on weekends (I think??? I don't know, I went with a church group), go down to the Oasis, etc. The Oasis is the chaplain's lounge and you can go down there (it's under Sijan) and hang out and watch TV or a movie or study or take their free coffee. Some squadrons have gone bowling, watched movies together in the SAR (Squadron Assembly Room), and one squadron even got their AOC to approve them going off base to a concert. I kid you not. Do well here on inspections and knowledge tests and you will get more privileges. :)

redhead, Apparently you guys can't go to Arnold Hall until after Parent's weekend, I sat A-Hall CQ sat night and was told by an earlier person who sat that Helms flipped a lid when he saw 4 digs in there, so I had to tell you all not to go in.

Yeah, the 4dig RO says that A-hall is available to 4 digs when the Wing Commander says so, which is different from last year's rule of after parent's weekend.

Helms will flip over 4digs not following the rules. A couple of my friends got blasted last year for talking on the strips...at 11:30 at night on a Saturday by A-hall (i.e. they were on the strips for about 50 ft).

I'm in 3, btw.

OOH, First group. Bet there still not as hard-core as 2-4 though. Sorry, squadron pride. ;)

But seriously, school's not too bad unless you get all of your tough courses in one semester. I have some, not all of my hard ones, so it isn't too bad. The weekends are really the time when I work hard though, since I have less time b/c I'm part of D&B. And like redhead said, it's all about what you make of it. Attitude is pretty important here.

BTW, why do I keep running into you at the C-store, redhead? I mean, it's like you're following me or something [looks over shoulder to see if she is]. :)

the workload is not bad freshman year, especially first semester because they want you to get used to balancing academics, athletics, military knowledge and uniform upkeep, etc. this semester my classes are alright beacuse while i have 7 classes, its only 20 hours. its definetely busier than last year b/c on top of classes and athletics and extra curriculars, i still memorize the knowledge every week with the 4 digs, spend time working on them with it, and setting up other training activities (practice k-tests, upcoming training activities, etc)

oh, and with the sunbathing, what works really well is having a couple water balloons tossed from the t-zo side of the quad, they sit up and look up to see who threw them, and you have ppl from the back stairwells run with trashcans of water and dump it on the sunbathers from behind... that always works well

haha eagle...

i'm in 25 also, and what's this about not being able to go to arnold hall? what if we have a package there? i knew we couldn't order pizza or anything like that, but my printer's there!

you need to get permission

the package stop is the only authorization for 4 digs to use A-hall during the duty day. at night for events like SPIRE in the ballroom you may also go, but no services like richter lounge or the alley may be used

ok thats what i thought, thanks!
