I want to apply to a couple colleges out of state (namely University of Illinois @ Urbana-Champaign and Purdue) and was wondering if there's some sort of discount if it's in the same region in which you live (I live in the midwest. I've heard of something called MESP but I'm not sure what it is). Also, if there's anyone reading this who's currently attending either of these schools, do they have a good amount of scholarship money up for grabs?

Thanks!

I went to UIUC- I am not aware of any reciprocity agreement for in state tuition.

It looks like they do. I don’t really think it makes a huge difference in cost though.
Here:
Msep.mhec.org/MSEPFAQ

The State of Illinois participates, but as you can see from this list of institutions, the University of Illinois does not:

http://msep.mhec.org/MSEPParticipatingInstitutions

Often, the best schools do not participate in those exchanges.

UIUC is not a good source for merit aid. Has a few for very high stats.

Purdue has some lowish merit scholarships for high stats students, but the remaining costs can still be high. You’d need about an ACT 32+

How much will your family pay? What are your stats?

edited to add

3.72 GPA (may be 3.5-3.6 when applying)
ACT score most likely 25-27
3 AP courses this year, 2-3 next year

Unless your ACT is MUCH higher, it’s not likely you’d get any merit from the better schools that give merit.
