My D is coming off the waitlist, so we are catching up. Are there summer orientation sessions at Vandy? When do the freshmen register for classes?

Vandy doesn’t have orientation prior to arriving on campus. The entire freshman class has their “orientation” together between move in (August 20) and the first day of classes and it may actually extend throughout that week. I can send you a list of activities if you would like.

The students also register for classes starting sometime in June.

Thanks very much! No need to send me the list–I think I can find that on-line. Do they register for classes online? What about academic advising?

They do it online and will receive an information packet late this month. Road to Vanderbilt says the packet will include dates of registration windows, information on how to match your class choices to requirements in your school and how to contact and adviser for assistance in choosing courses.

My S is a rising junior at Vandy. In a letter dated May 13, 2009, he was told his summer academic advisor, his registration appointment period when he could talk with her (June15-19–I think he was in the middle.), and the toll free phone number he could call to talk with her. He had filled out his COURSE REQUEST FORM that came in the same mailing prior to his calling her. On the form he had to fill in his course subjects, course numbers, course titles, days and times, and credit hours. Below that, he filled in his six alternate choices for his first year writing seminar. (His first choice was Professor Dalhouse’s Presidential Politics, which he got and loved.) After his advisor approved his selections over the phone, she gave him a code, and he filled out the online version of the request form, using the 4-digit code, his vunetid, and e-password. The web address is on the form.
