I would greatly appreciate an answer to any of the following questions. They are mostly directed towards current students but anyone who has an answer is more than welcome.

Is the college’s social life centered mostly around frats & sororities? I don’t wish to be a part of one but i dont want to be a social outcast because of it.

How safe is the campus?

Is there any kind of camp before their freshman year starts for students who have gotten in and are going there?

What is the admissions process like?

I know drinking is an issue at every college but will i still have fun if i decide not to drink?

I have heard that U of A is really clique-y. Is it difficult to make new friends because everyone sticks together with their old highschool friends?

After freshman year do most students move out of the dorms? & is housing off campus decent?

How available and helpful are the the professors overall? & how big are class sizes usually?

Are most students friendly and outgoing and willing to meet new people?

What is there to do at the university?

I know it’s a hassle but if you could answer even just 1 of these questions it would be greatly appreciated. & if you have anything else to add feel free. (:

I am going to Bama next year, so I can answer some of your questions.

Yes, the frats and sororities control basically everything. Everything is centered around them. But im sure you can still find friends that arent in them.

I think it’s pretty safe.

Bama bound.

You just need to complete the application, send your transcripts in, and send in your SAT scores. Then you can complete the scholarship section if you want.

I think you could. But drinking is a big thing at bama.

Yea most move out. They have some pretty nice apartments off campus.

Its a large state school, so I am pretty sure the classes are going to be huge for introductory courses.

Party, football games, intramurals, clubs, and party some more.

I don't go there anymore (mostly due to financial reasons though), but I put my complete focus on this school and this was the only school I had wanted to attend when application time came. I know lot of people who are still there, and I've been to UA quite a few times. I'll answer what I can with my somewhat limited knowledge.

I know for a fact the greek scene is big, bigger than big. You could probably find friends that aren't greek, but a lot of the social events and whatnot will cater to the greek scene. Being in a sorority or fraternity is a big deal at UA.

I've never known it to be dangerous. Stats say most of the crime is theft and burglary.

Bama Bound, but it only lasts two days.

Easy. Fill out the application, send your scores and transcripts, and you're done. No essay required. They pretty much just look at the numbers.

...This question really depends on what kind of friends you're going to hang out. Drinking is common, so if feeling like the only sober person at the party is going to get to you, maybe.

Hmm...everyone knows someone down there. I don't imagine it would be terribly hard to meet new people, but cliques will stay with their cliques, whether it be old HS friends of sorority sisters. I can't really say, I knew a few people from HS myself.

Depends. I stayed in Tutwiler, and I immediately got out of there. Open? No way. Some of those sorority girls were plain out awful and snobbish. But I moved to Ridgecrest, and the people there were a lot more open and friendly. I can't say most, because some people won't even say Good Morning while some will rush to catch the door for you. Can't judge everyone.
