Being a LAC, Swarthmore has an excellent reputation for its humanities programs, but I was hoping someone could tell me a little bit more about the English program specifically: professors, student enthusiasm, class size, required courses. How much were you challenged? How many of the courses feel like "fluff" courses?

Is it possible to live off campus as a sophomore and how does the administration help you in the process of finding an apartment nearby?

Thank you to anyone taking the time to read and answer, extremely helpful and well appreciated!

Question number 2: yes, it is very possible to live off campus. There is one building nearby that is basically full of swat students every semester, and if you want to live there and there is room, it is very easy to do so. Swarthmore is a wealthy suburb, so there are not a huge number of apartments but many students live in the homes of professors on sabbatical, and other apartments that are available will have ‘for rent’ signs on them. The college does not get too involved in helping people find housing off campus.

brm114341-just to clarify what xanadu83 said, while there are possibilities to live off campus, the VAST majority of students live on campus all 4 years. Well over 90%. It’s a strong part of what makes up the Swarthmore community feel. There are off-campus listings posted on the Housing Bulletin board in Parrish Hall.

Fall break ? What did most students do for fall break ? I am from CA ?
