Questions for engineers

1) What's a respectable GPA to employers/grad schools? My GPA took a large hit semester and I'm down to like a 3.48. I still feel like I learned a lot in my classes, and my drop was largely just due to finals and not my lack of understanding, so I'm not going to care much about GPA anymore. I just want to know what I should aim to maintain if I want to work or maybe go to grad school.

2) How much will I find myself using MATLAB and when? I'm going to be a MechE.

3) Any opinions about ENGRD 202 (mechanics of solids), MATH 294 (linear algebra), ENGRD 221 (thermo)?

Thanks.

And I don't mean to say that I want to slack off; I'll work as hard as I've always been, but I'll just try not to obsess over grades as much as before.

By graduate school, do you mean an M.Eng or MBA, or a PhD program?

My sense is a 3.5 and above coming out of Cornell engineering is fantastic. And typically your GPA will go up a lot your junior and senior years.

What year are you? First year? Finishing your your first year with a 3.5 is pretty good.

I took 222, not 294, but most engineers I knew felt that 294 (linear algebra) was the easiest in the sequence.
