Questions on unsubsidized loans.

I was recently admitted to UCLA and found out I am receiving around 20k in financial aid. This award includes the cal grant, pell grant, and the UCLA scholarship for incoming freshman. My expected family contribution is around 1,600 and according to my estimated financial aid report I have to pay the other 10k of my tuition. 2k of this can be paid through work study; however, the rest must be paid through loans, including 2k in unsubsidized loans. I was wondering if my family decides to pay this 2k from the unsubsidized loans, will my aid get affected in anyway? Will my financial aid get lowered due to my family's contribution being more than it was expected this to be. My parents cannot really pay a lot of my tuition, but they know about the gruesome nature of loans and are willing to cutback on a lot of our expenses in order for me to take less loans. Thank you so much for all your help. Any feedback is appreciated.

I think you’re asking if you can turn down the loans without changing the rest of your package – if so, the answer is yes. You can decline the loans if you can find another way of coming up with the money.
