Come on Morgan! Give me some credit, I've moved on from the september obsession with lambda that everyone seemed to have (although there is a difference between the frats I tend to prefer - the lighter, nicer ones I think - and the ones Morgan prefers which can be quite mean sometimes - I reffed a Kappa Sig vs Sigma Chi game the other day and the only game I've reffed that was worse than that was the Phi Kap vs Kappa Sig game today - and party a lot). BTW, Morgan, I heard Kappa Sig has one of the most brutal pledgeships, so good luck if you choose to go that route.

But the great news is that there are a lot of varying opinions here from James (sorry skirbyy but if everyone is going to know mine morgan's name, they'll know yours too) from the sub-free hall, to me and Morgan who are more into the frats and culture though in different ways (and of course me being the lone democrat on this board, but really I don't mind, it's been nice to get alternate viewpoints and actually be debated and challenged for a change - though those college republican t-shirts anger me).

But I think the one thing we can all agree on (other than KD's being very very hot) is that W&L is an amazing place to be.

Oh, and James made fun of me like an hour ago for posting on CC . . . talk about hypocritical republicans.

Hm... actually Kappa Sig and Sigma Chi guys have been extremely nice in my opinion, but they're also really cool unlike some others that are nice. Dima, let us know what fraternities you may be considering at this point... Mine have to be Kappa Sigma, Sigma Chi, Pi Phi, PiKA, Phi Psi, FIJI. Dima, who told you Kapp Sig had the hardest pledgeship? Also, on the "mean" note, I think you may be mistaking sarcasm for right out cruelness. Kappa Sig guys are really hilarious and can come off as mean if you don't know them well.

Morgan, a lot of my views of frats have been from flag football games. And the frats that make a lot of trouble on the field are (in order I guess) Phi Kap, Kappa Sig, Sigma Chi and PiKA (FIJI to a lesser extent)

Kappa Sig is one of the frats I've heard has a really hard pledgeship (along with KA, PiKA and Kappa Sig I think)

As for what frats I like right now, they have to be Phi Psi, Chi Psi and FIJI (I haven't really decided past then though a couple - like Lambda and KA are off my list for good) but that can always change before January.

PS: Maybe we should go back to helping prospectives instead of scaring them off, haha. Actually I met two from my high school in the admissions office today - it was really cool considering I'm only the second person to ever come here from Stuy.

ag54--i notice you haven't posted here lately, but my son was also recruited by w&l for football. we drove out there for a visit in early august and really enjoyed meeting the coaches. nice campus with nice facilities. my son had met one of the coaches earlier in the summer at a camp--and he really like him, so he wanted to go check it out.

not that it had any influence on us, but our student tour guide kept making derogatory comments about the football team. about halfway through the tour, he saw the football folder my son was carrying and then he tried to smooth things over. it was just kind of awkward.

the w&l coach we know is a fantastic kid and even though my son has made a verbal commitment elsewhere and has received a likely letter, this coach continues to stay in touch.

hope things go well for you and your son--how is the final high school season going for your team? we are in the state quarterfinal game tonight!

Hi! I had my interview at W&L yesterday.
Dima, I think I saw you in the admissions office. I was there around 2:00 and I heard someone talking about Stuy and figured it was Stuyvesant and then I remembered College Confidential and thought it might be you because I remembered reading your posts here...Anyway, I have light blonde hair and had on a tan and pink argyle sweater. Was that you?

in a strange twist of fate, a couple of girls from stuy showed up in the admissions office as i was finishing up my work-study for the week and the father of one of them found me . . . i would imagine the chances of that are insanely low since i am almost always behind the scenes and not where the prospectives are

and yeah, i think i remember seeing you there, you were with your parents and walked in around 10 minutes before I left, right?

I was with my mom, who also is blonde and had on a black quilted jacket.
I remember you! My mom and I overheard your conversation and picked up some good tips, like how to say "Staunton" correctly!
I had an interview with Erin Hutchinson at 1:15 and then had to wait until 2:00 for the information session, which is when I saw you. After that I took the 3:00 tour. I had visited W&L before (last April) and though I liked it last time, I liked it even more this time! I think it's my first choice.

Wonderful, so I'm guessing you were sitting in the reception room when I was talking to the girls. And yes, you don't pronounce the 'u' in Staunton.

Hi Wbow, I mostly tend to lurk and read unless I want info. We are planning a trip to VA and NC this spring break to visit and meet the coaches at some schools. My S is a junior, so we are just beginning this search for him. We have so far visited Rhodes over the summer, and Trinity Univ. last weekend. We were able to vist Trinity for their last game because we unfortunately were knocked out of playoff contention. Typical season for us, top offense in the district, but weak defense. Oh well, there is always next year!! He has already started la crosse practice and is off to the next season. Congrats to your son and good luck with the rest of his games!

My S was very impressed when he went to Rhodes, he loved the campus and the coach was great. Then he loved Trinity. Their program is incredibly strong, they clinched the SCIC conference and NCAA bid to the D3 playoffs Sat. The coach we met with had been a coach at our rival hs, so had lots of info on my S already and that made S feel really wanted. He likes the idea that we can drive there and watch him play. We are still making the trip this spring, but I have a strong feeling that unless he is bowled over, he will chose the proximity and football program at Trinity. We'll see. Where did your S end up?

ag54, stop by HSC. It was like a great time for me. it was flippin' SWEET! the profs., the students, the school itself. However, it is a time warp for some. they still use chalkboards and chalk. the dorms are impressive. I visited a few mths. ago if you want more info. PM me.

Haha W&L still uses chalkboards and chalk, too... what do other schools use? I did find it strange that I am the only kid who uses a laptop to take notes... they are so prevalent at other colleges.

i have been reading posts on this thread for months now...

and today is the big day the ED1 deadline
im sure there are some other people out there like me lurking behind the curtain of the internet watching these posts like i did

so i figured now is a great time to ask a few questions

1: is it true that wlu takes 45% of their class ed
2: is the person who travels in your area the person reading your app
3: on a personal note do you like trance/ dance music cause im a dj and Mr. Webster might not be too fond of the techno mixes i sent him

My first pick was any of the service academies (West Point, Annapolis, Air Force). I was disqualified last year because of medical issues that are now resolved (I'm reapplying).

I applied to:
William and Mary
Carnegie Mellon
Dickinson College
Miami University (Ohio)

W&L was my top "civilian" school choice for a lot of reasons. The size, the academics, the honor code, the amazing ROTC program (we do it at the neighboring VMI), the study abroad opportunities... It just seemed like the right college for me, and for the most part, it is.

Bisco:
1) yes
2) all admissions counselors read the apps I'm pretty sure. I'm from Maine so I had no one traveling in my area.
3) I have gained a new appreciation for techno type music this year. My band actually created a techo song when we were improvising at a party... it was pretty fun and sounds cool. So yeah techno is sweet. Mr. Webster will probably appreciate what you send him. It will definitely not HURT your app.
