First off, been lurking here for about a week, and found the info on this site incredibly helpful!

I had one question though, and cannot find the answer. Thus, I created an account and plan to make full use of it haha!

I go to a top 100 school, and have a a solid gpa (3.71 unweighted on a scale of 4), but my SATs are mediocre for my school.

My SAT is a 1920, which is I believe like 85-90th percentile?

However, in my school, I am 45th percentile in reading, 60th percentile in math, and 73rd percentile in writing.

My question is, will colleges reject me due to my "average" SAT scores in my school?

The Common Application asks for your rank in your school based on your GPA, but I’ve never heard that they compare your SATs scores with your peers. They are more likely to compare your SATs with their own student body. Those are the statistics you should be looking at.

Well my HS does not rank, we don’t do that in my HS. Which is why I worried they would use the SAT as a basis to compare and rank the students.

For example, one of the universities I am looking at is University of Rochester!

Their average SAT is about 590-690 for CR, 640-720 for Math, and 590-690 for Writing!

I am in those ranges, but will the U of R say that due to the fact my SAT’s are “average” for my HS, I get rejected?

No SAT are ment to compare you to everyone not just your school.

Big relief!

Thank you so much!
