So I know that some how in your essay you should really show interest in the college you're applying to, but I don't really understand how. I mean, if the questions don't specifically ask: "Why are you interested in X College or University of Y?" then how do you fit that into your essay without trying to sound "kiss-ass-ey", ya know?

Your essay should actually be focusing on you. The whole point of writing an essay is so that colleges can finally figure out who you really are without having to rely on a bunch of numbers (ex. GPA, SAT scores ETC.ETC.) Your essay gives them a good sence of who you really are and gives them a reason to either accept or deny you regardless of all your other stuff in ur app.

In other words : Your essay can make or break you.

So dont worry about saying WHY U SHOULD GET IN, focus on a good essay. Thats all that matters!

Best of Luck!

Well, some schools will ask you to tell them why you want to attend, while others will just want to hear about you, as a person, and others will want both. Just respond to the topics with what you think would be the best essay possible.

i would definitely back the statement up that an essay can make or break, but does so seldomly. needs to be extremely good/bad to do so.

my best advice to college essay writers is to write about themselves, as personally they can. they want to get to know YOU, not what ECs you did, the math olympiad you won, or how you went to the soup kitchen every saturday, they want YOU.

But, if I talk about the ECs I did and how they affected me as a person and how I matured, that would be acceptable, right? I mean I’ve got a lot of ECs that really, really matured me and that’s what I want them to see I think. So don’t worry about showing interest in the essay, correct?

The school knows you want to go there, there is no reason to waste the time telling them how wonderful the school is. If they ask you why you want to go to the school, I would still focus as much on you as possible. Many people are going to incorrectly assume they want to hear how much you like the campus and school. If you turn the essay into a plead to accept you, it won’t work.

Ok cool thats kinda what I was thinking, thank you!!

and my bad i didn’t mean to bump this thread;
I have my problem solved, I just wanted to say thanks…
