Quirky and Nerdy LACs

anyone, anyone? And thanks for all of the responses so far.

When I first read your post I thought of Reed.
In NC, maybe check out Davidson. All of the people I have met from Davidson have been rather interesting people, and it is an awesome LAC.

Oberlin = nerdy/geeky/dorky/quirky

Don't know if it's "outdoorsy". Will tell you after I get there. Everyone compares Oberlin and Reed, though, so maybe you should look at it.

-cute town or small city (would consider rural too)

Oberlin has 8,000 residents (the town), but Cleveland's only 35 miles away.

-interesting and weird traditions

Yes! Oberlin was the first college to admit women and African Americans. =D.

-pretty campus

Yeah =).

-good, vegetarian friendly food

There are tons of vegetarian / vegan people, it's very friendly to vegetarians.

Vassar is good, too, btw.

I am a new member here. I heard from my friend that Reed is unique(I'm a non-American). But it doesn't rank high in US news . Nor does it offer scholorships. Does Reed worth applying?

Using profile info--Reed, Colby, Bates, Pitzer, and Grinnell may be the most selective of the group about which you inquired. Then come Macalester, Colorado, Smith, and Whitman. Mount Holyoke and Hampshire are probably the least selective of the group about which you inquired.

Also, don't pay very much attention to rankings. They aren't very objective and are skewed to the big name colleges.

Alter ego:

Reed objects to the US News list and doesn’t participate in their data collection. This generally leads to a lower than actual estimate of standard test scores, etc. and effectively penalizes them with a lower ranking. Reed is a top academic LAC.

I am a bit lost. What does quirky mean?

Quirky means a bit odd, but not abnormal. Doing things in a manner that is out of the ordinary. A sense of fun is also implied.

Why hasn't anyone said Harvey Mudd yet? Seems like exactly what she want quirky engineers and math majors skating to class with their labs in one hand and a pizza in the other. One of the best liberal arts colleges for science.

I agree with Reed and Colorado College. My D goes to Connecticut College and was abroad this semester. Several of the kids in her program were from Whitman and her descriptions of them seem to match your criteria. Reed is pretty hard to get into, as is i believe Colorado College. Not sure about Whitman. There are so so many schools that fit what you're looking for, you're going to have lots of great choices.

Sounds like Carleton to me.
