Many colleges I am applying to ask questions like "Why (school name)?" "What makes you think (school name) is a fit for you?" I have talked to former students or current students at each of the schools I am applying to and their answers to my questions and the stories they tell have deepened my understanding of the schools. I want to quote them or reference their advice and comments, but I don't want to sound like a suck-up. Has anyone done this before? How would you recommend quoting a student or referencing their insight about a college?

You could probably paraphrase something that they told you. I don’t think I would put an actual quote in though

When I was writing application essays, I read somewhere that you should not include any quotes. And if you think about it, it makes sense: they want to see what YOU have to say and not what someone else said. So, I would discourage you from quoting anything, instead just paraphrase them (as jgraider said).

Great, thank you. If I were to paraphrase them, should I include their name, so that it doesn’t sound like I made up the experience of talking to some student?

I probably wouldn’t put their names, but you can if you feel that that would be better
