Race/Ethnicity Question

Somewhat of a trivial concern:

The MIT online application asks for ethnicity, but it seems to not require it. In other words, there is no *asterisk next to Ethnicity. However, I would imagine that ethnicity would be of consequence to the admissions.

I'm putting mine down, but I acknowledge that I am an over-represented minority and not filling that particular check box may be more advantageous for my application. But then again, maybe it will become obvious later in the application either way.

Thoughts on this?

One of the MIT bloggers had an entry about this recently... hopefully it might be of some use to you.

Yah, but of course he's the black minority admissions officer (i.e. his job centers around minority applications)...take everything with a pinch of salt.

If you are Asian, I think they will just end up telling by your last name, but then again your last name might be "Galt", so maybe not.

I somehow doubt his last name is actually Galt...

eh? It's from the first line of Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged novel.

Who is John Galt?

I figured you might be named John Galt, since your username is JohnGalt. I have not read that book, I guess.

perfectly understandeable kevtrice, but this is one of those myriad scenarios when ignorance is not bliss.

Take some time to read Atlas Shrugged. It's an enormous tome of a book but it's too thought-provoking to pass up.

My real name is River Phoenix.

Spartan Pho3nix here.

Yes, with the 3.

Hello, cousin.
